Biography

He was born on 22 July 1958 in Čerin, Municipality of Čitluk. He is a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostar, a specialist in internal medicine, a subspecialist in gastroenterology and hepatology, and holds the title of primarius. He graduated in Sarajevo, obtained his Master’s degree in Zagreb with the thesis “Endosonography, manometry and EMG in the evaluation of the morphology and function of anal sphincters in patients with chronic constipation”, and earned his PhD in Mostar by defending the dissertation “The effect of hyperthermic chemoimmunotherapy on peritoneal carcinomatosis in mice.” He has worked at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostar and at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostar. He is the Head of the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar and the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostar, where he led the doctoral study programme Biomedicine and Health. He is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Split, Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Medicina Academica Mostariensia, and a member of several expert working groups at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology. He has led more than 20 scientific research projects, as well as three Interreg IPA cross-border cooperation projects. He has published a large number of scientific and professional papers, including more than 40 in CC-indexed journals. He is the author and co-author of five professional books and the organizer of several international congresses and symposia. He is an associate member of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, a corresponding member of the HAZU BiH, a full member of the IANUBiH, and Vice-Rector for Biomedicine.
